Arts Center
Creativity is encouraged and valued at all levels at Leelanau, but within the walls (and outside of them!) of the Arts Center, students can both explore and hone their skills. Our passionate teachers create the spark and kindle the flame of creativity within visual, musical, and theatrical arts. Learn More About The Arts Program
Aerial Campus Tour – The Leelanau School
Nestled in the woods, our stunning and secluded 42-acre campus on the shore of Lake Michigan and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, makes learning at The Leelanau School an adventure like no other. It’s a place where the learning is experiential, meaningful, and exhilarating; the community is small, safe, and loving; and nature is our classroom.
Student Center Aerial
A place to nourish the body with healthy and delicious food, meet as a community, hang out during free time, and the home to our administrative offices, the Student Center is busy and joy-filled space. The building which was designed by famed architect Alden B. Dow is a warm yet inspiring a-frame structure with towering cathedral ceilings offering beautiful views of the lawn of Graduation Green and the sparkling Crystal River.

Pinebrook House – Girls
Girls of all grades live in Pinebrook House. The building is split into two wings with their own living spaces and shared bathrooms and is joined in the middle by a large communal space with comfy couches, tables for art or activities, a built-in wood stove, a television, and more.
Kindel House – Boys Grades 11 & 12
Home to our upperclassmen boys, Kindel House is a fun place to be. With shared suites running the perimeter, a modern shared kitchenette, and a large communal room in the center, there is both privacy and plenty of space for ping pong, foosball, lounging by the fire, and playing video games, or watching TV.
Student Center River Side
On sunny days students often eat meals on the open-air deck with the Crystal River running just below. Positioned near Pinebrook House for Girls and the Art Center and marking the beginning of the main path over the bridge to our private beach on Lake Michigan just beyond, it is a place cherished by all.
Observatory
Our beachfront observatory is pretty special, students are able to study celestial objects, space, optics, and the physical universe in astronomy or other science classes. We also offer evening stargazing and astronomy clubs. The observatory is also used for other purposes too, such as writing classes on the beach, yoga on the deck, and a place for quiet mindfulness.
