Leelanau’s College Counselor organizes the Leelanau School’s college preparation program. Through classroom curriculum, LRC instruction and support programs students are well-prepared for independence and college level courses. However, the process of preparing application materials and selecting a college can be daunting. Our College Counselor assists students and families with this process every step of the way.
Testing Test preparation is incorporated into the Humanities and Math curricula, and computerized self-preparation programs are also available. Leelanau students are encouraged to take the SAT and the ACT twice during junior and/or senior year. Testing is administered on our campus or in the immediate area, during students' sophomore, junior and senior years. Regular testing has been found to be good preparation for college and also qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship competition (PSAT/NMSQT).
Counseling Leelanau’s College Counselor advises students and families during the March Parents' Weekend of students' junior year. Previous to this meeting, students will have met with our College Counselor in the autumn months of each school year to receive guidance in selecting Leelanau School programs that reflect their interests and aptitudes, so as to build a strong and unique transcript that showcases each student’s abilities.
