After a fundamental English proficiency assessment, students are placed into appropriate levels of English as a Second Language courses. Students learn mechanics, vocabulary, usage, and context through lecture, projects and conversation. Instructors offer encouraging feedback for students, while designing curriculum that strategically prepares them for the TOEFL test.
The learning environment at Leelanau is exciting: students create movies, write their own scripts and film them and develop and practice their English writing and speaking skills. Other assignments include research writings, reading novels and viewing movie adaptations of the books, creating multimedia presentations and visiting a local chocolatier’s shop as she makes truffles.
Individual tutoring is available every day. Teachers are also available for extra support during meals or free periods.
