Welcome

Welcome to The Leelanau School website! We are glad that you are visiting our site and hope that it will pique your interest to dig a bit deeper and learn more about us. Nothing we can put in print or photographs can come close to what you will see and experience when you visit campus so I hope you'll plan a visit to meet us here on the beautiful Leelanau Peninsula. We offer a rigorous college preparatory curriculum using multi-sensory, experiential, and strength-based methodologies. Students gain awareness of their individual learning styles, build skills and strategies to maximize their learning potential, and grow into independent learners. |
Our setting is ideal for helping students to develop their creativity and adaptability and our curriculum and methods emphasize these important 21st century characteristics. Many of our students have unusual creativity and intellectual power and thrive under the guidance and care of our dynamic faculty. These attributes are accompanied by insight, knowledge, humor, curiosity and originality. Many of our students become superior artists, architects, photographers, poets, writers, engineers and entrepreneurs who use their divergent thinking, heightened perception and creative problem-solving to achieve success here at The Leelanau School and beyond.
I hope that you will look through our website, visit us on Facebook, call with questions and then schedule a visit with us. Leelanau means "Land of Delight" according to Henry Rowe Schoolcraft (Michigan's Superintendent of Indian Affairs 1814-1831). It comes from the name of an Ojibwa maiden of legend, Leelinau. I think that you'll find that not only does the area live up to its name but that we prepare students to find the delight in their lives and follow it.
