A Better Way To Learn At The Leelanau School

img_3819The Leelanau School excels in teaching students with diverse learning styles. The Leelanau School is a co-ed 9-12 grade boarding and day school located on the Crystal River and shores of Lake Michigan in Glen Arbor. We are accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).

Our students come to us with a range of abilities, but all seeking to make the most of their education. Some students simply are seeking a different school environment, where project based, hands-on experiential learning is the focus.  We have great success with students who have ADHD, mild spectrum disorders or executive function disorders.

Our faculty and staff are experts in helping our students find and develop their path back to academic — and life — success. At The Leelanau School, we strive to provide a supportive environment for our students inside and out of the classroom. We have been ranked one of the top 20 private schools in the US based on student-teacher ratios.

Strength-based Teaching

How do we know what a student’s strengths are? We ask. The low student-teacher ratio at The Leelanau School allows us to make time to help our students get to know themselves better. We help them discover their strengths, how they learn best and help them imagine their own potential. We then present them opportunities to succeed and push past their limitations.

Student Life & Community

We’re fortunate to have our campus on the shore of Lake Michigan with the Crystal River flowing through our campus. We have a large greenhouse that staff and students utilize for supplementing the campus cafe, but also to teach life skills. Our campus is in the small town of Glen Arbor and located directly north of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which was voted the most beautiful place in America by “Good Morning America.”
